NOTE

This review covers Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto as well as the OVA.

Sakamoto is less a character than he is a premise. He’s just perfect at everything, and the show knows it. An anilist review said something about Sakamoto being a Gary Stu, and it honestly fits to a tee.

The humor in this show doesn’t really come from Sakamoto, but from watching everyone around him lose their minds over it. When it clicks, it’s genuinely funny, and I found myself outwardly laughing multiple times throughout the show. When it doesn’t, you’re sitting through another example of jealous guys scheming to take him down, which gets old very fast.

The side characters are pretty forgettable overall. The one exception is Kubota’s mom, whose deeply unhinged and almost obsessive crush on Sakamoto produces some really interesting and sometimes gross moments in the show. A prime example is dressing up as her son to get close to Sakamoto at school.

Honestly, it was a fun watch, but didn’t really stick with me after finishing it. Some episodes were fun, and some weren’t.
